RESEARCH STUDY:
Are you struggling to conceive, but have no insurance coverage? The Center for Assisted Reproduction participates in investigational studies that sometimes significantly reduce the cost of treatment. If you are interested in finding out if you qualify for one of the studies, please contact us.

The Center for Assisted Reproduction, located in Bedford and Frisco, Texas, is the largest free-standing IVF Center in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. Headed by a husband and wife physician team, Dr. Kathleen Doody and Dr. Kevin Doody, this is a unique arrangement in which the fertility specialists and the infertile patients are both working together as couples with a common goal. In August of 2001, the physician team was joined by Dr. Anna Nackley, who has proven to be an important addition to our growing family at CAR. Our Frisco office includes, Jana Davis, PA-C and is soon to be joined by Dr. Rinku Mehta.

CAR offers treatment as simple as cycle monitoring to more complicated procedures such as in vitro fertilization and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. Our physicians are also Tubal ligation reversal experts, performing an average of 10 tubal reversals a month.

If you would like to schedule an initial consultation with one of our board certified Reproductive Endocrinologists, or just more information about the Center, please contact us at

Q:How long should I try to get pregnant on my own before I see a specialist?

A:Typically if you are a female younger than age 35 and have not used contraception for 12 or more months it is time to see a specialist. If you are a female age 35 or older and have not used contraception for 6 months or more, appropriate evaluation and treatment is warranted. If you have a history of irregular periods or if you are already aware of a fertility problem (male factor or female factor) and desire to conceive, you may want to see a specialist sooner. If you have become pregnant, but miscarried 2 or more times consecutively, it is time to see a specialist for recurrent pregnancy loss.

Q:What are my options to conceive if I have had a tubal ligation?

A:There are several types of tubal ligations. The vast majority of sterilization procedures can be reversed. In order to confirm that your ligation is likely amenable to reconstruction, it is best if we review the operative report if it is available. In vitro fertilization (IVF) can be used in those circumstances that tubal reconstruction is not feasible or other fertility factors (e.g. sperm issues) are present.

Q:Is there a test to find out if I am fertile?

A:For men, the semen analysis is the best screening for infertility. For women, it is more complicated. There are several tests that we use to determine a woman’s fertility. A complete physical exam, pelvic examination and pelvic sonogram are important first steps. An x-ray called HSG may be performed to screen for blockage at the fallopian tubes. Irregular cycles or the size and appearance of the ovaries on ultrasound may suggest a hormonal problem. Hormonal testing is available to assess the ovarian “biological clock” as well. These two tests help us to determine the likelihood of a female to achieve pregnancy on her own or if it is a good time to try certain types of fertility treatment.
