Anti-LGBTQ+ Bills Attacking Community; Trans Groups Merge

Florida State Legislators are considering new legislation that would block the display of any ‘non-governmental’ flags on state government buildings and agencies including schools and universities. Aimed squarely at preventing pride flags from being flown, the only flags allowed would be the United States or Florida State flags if the bill passes.

The National Center for Transgender Equality and the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund are merging together to form a new organization, Advocates for Trans Equality, to better combat anti-trans bills and provide greater support to the trans community nationwide. The merger is expected to be complete by summer.

According to The American Civil Liberties Union, at least 285 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have already been introduced in state legislatures around the country this year. Among those are 21 drag show bans. Others deal with education, health care, free speech and more. The ACLU says on their website they will not stop speaking out against these cruel attacks nationwide.
