Florida Schools Ban Dictionary; Ohio Overrides Veto; Max Cancels Gay Show

It sounds downright dystopian, but the Escambia School District in Florida has removed the dictionary from library shelves concerned that the book violates a Florida law. That law gives parents the power to request its removal if it contains depictions of or describes sex. The dictionary, which obviously contains such definitions, has been removed along with other knowledge books including encyclopedias, thesauruses, and even The Guinness Book of World Records.

The Republican-led Ohio House has overridden the Governor’s veto of the bill that would ban gender-affirming care for trans youth. The Governor said he vetoed the bill after meeting with parents of trans youth, saying they knew what was best for their own children. The Ohio House disagrees and now the override goes to the state senate who will vote on the override on January 24th.

The gay-positive pirate series “Our Flag Means Death” has met its demise on Max. The streaming service has announced that the second season that’s available now will be the show’s last.
