A Miami man says he was beaten unconscious by two unknown assailants over the weekend because he is gay. The man says he was walking home from Oasis Lounge through the Coconut Grove neighborhood when the two men used a homophobic slur as they punched and kicked him. He blames recent anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in Florida. Miami detectives are searching for the attackers.
A Republican lawmaker in Alabama is cutting $5 million in funding for the Alabama Department of Archives and History because they hosted a lecture about LGBTQ+ history in the state. The rep, Chris Elliot, said bluntly “Make no mistake, [this] is to send a message to the Archives and History Department, that we don’t believe this is a topic appropriate. ”
A bookseller in Hungary is facing a steep fine of over $35,000 US dollars after it failed to place copies of “Heartstopper” in closed packaging. The fine is part of Hungary’s ‘child protection’ law that was passed in 2021. The law prevents any public display of LGBTQ+ content.
